Crime and Forensics
Overview: Within this project, the class was assigned to 3 different crime scenes. I was assigned to Crime Scene 2 and was partnered with Marley Weaver-Gable. We first received a briefing of how the body remains were found. A couple was out hiking in the San Juan Forest with their dog when the dog ran off and came back with a bone. The couple followed the dog to where it found the bone, and that where the body was discovered wrapped and taped up in a plastic bag. From there we collected and photographed possible evidence.

Project Reflection
Throughout this project we were required to choose an ecological problem that is present on an international level, as well as on a local community level within Durango. The list was made up of four ecological issues; Colony Collapse Disorder, Bear Human Conflict, Great Pacific Garbage Patch, and Mega-Fires. Within the chosen topic, we were to research the cause and effect of the issue in-depth. We then created a monitoring and management plan, which was made out of 2 individual outlines involving solutions that could help solve the issue/problem. A timeline, a budget, and references were to be included within the presentation of the project. What our teacher wanted us to realize is how the stability of ecosystems and how healthy the earth is really affects us directly. Nature and humans co-exist together, even if we don’t realize it on a full spectrum scale. So in that sense, we have a responsibility to be aware and keep those habitats, (that we so dearly depend on), healthy. Within my individual project I concentrated on the developing issue of mega-fires. I had two solutions that involved the rehabilitation of severely burned ecosystems through the germination of native plant species, and creating a resource for individual land and homeowners to follow when creating defensible spaces against wildfires. Within my presentation I involved the importance of planting native plant species within the burned areas, and how it has a positive effect of the restoration of that ecosystem. As well as how creating a defensible space can effect whether or not your house or structure burns down in the scenario of threatening wildfire.
