A Reflection of Semester 2: Polynomial Project
What was the Polynomial Project?
The Polynomial Project consisted of finding a photo that had promising polynomials within it's lines and contours and then tracing whichever polynomials chosen onto a transparent piece of graph paper. Local minimum and maximum points were then plotted upon the polynomials, calculated through an algebraic process, and then replotted onto a fresh piece of graph paper. The polynomials were then redrawn on the fresh graph paper, and a new picture was drawn by the student. My project started off as a mountain range and ended up to be my cat, Babe. A written piece, which you can find below, was also required as part of the project. It explains various definitions needed as well as the algebraic process that was taken.
My reflection on the whole thing...
In general, this was a fun project to do. Besides the stress of deadlines, the content was fairly easy to follow once comprehended. It took me quite a while to first comprehend what I needed to do though, due to my the slow synapsis of neurons within my brain (not really but sometimes it feels like that). After I understood what needed to be done, and which steps needed to be taken in which order, the project went smoothly. My favorite part was tapping into the creativity needed to create and draw a new picture out of the polynomials. It's fun to see what comes out of the imagination, and it's fun to see how math can be a part of that process. Enlightening to a certain extent, actually.

A Reflection of Semester 1...
Prompt: What piece of work, project, test or assignment are you especially proud of this semester from your Algebra class? why are you proud of this piece? What did you learn from this item about mathematics and yourself?
One piece of work I'm proud of is the Semester Project where we were assigned to create problems that could then be used on the semester exam. the main reason why I'm the proudest of this project is because I worked completely independent from help and felt happy about turning in my assignments with no complications or struggles. From this perspective, it has helped me realize the value of feeling confident about your work. in the pas, because of my low confidence in school work, it's been difficult for me to initiate or execute my homework/assignments in class. All in all this has helped me see the connection between how you perceive yourself and the level of success you can attain in school.
The assignment itself gave me the opportunity to conduct an overview of what the class had learned during the entire semester. Since I had to create my own problems, it became required to actually engage in the math and find the resources needed to problem solve and make sure I was doing it to the best of my ability.
